Inspection Information

Inspections are based on regulations that are designed to eliminate risk factors for food borne disease. Each violation of these regulations is listed under the inspection.
Violation Types
Priority (P): The highest risk violations which are directly related to an increased risk of foodborne illness. Examples include improper handwashing, unsafe food temperatures.
Priority foundation (Pf): Violations that can create a high risk (Priority) violation. Examples include lack of soap at a handsink, no calibrated thermometer, no test strips to check sanitizer levels.
Core (C): Lower risk violations. Examples include general maintenance of facility (floors, walls, ceilings).
 
Correction Requirements: (P) and (Pf) violations must be corrected immediately when possible. Follow-up inspections occur to ensure all of these violations have been resolved if not corrected during the routine inspection. (C) violation corrections are verified at the next routine inspection.

01/31/2024 - ROUTINE INSPECTION
  6-501.12 - CORE
 Violation Comments:The area under the front hand sink, ice bin, and dump sink still has a significant build up of mold and debris. All areas of the facility must be cleaned often enough to prevent the formation of mold and debris, limit the formation of pest harborage conditions, and to limit the risk of accidental contamination of food. To correct: Clean inside of the cabinets under the hand sink, ice bin, and dump sink. This is a repeat violation. Repeat violations can lead to enforcement.

 Violation Comments:The coving next to the mop sink is falling off the wall. All areas in the facility must be maintained in good repair to ensure the facility is able to operate as approved. To correct: Repair the coving next to the mop sink.

  6-301.12 - PRIORITY FOUNDATION
 Violation Comments:Upon arrival, the front service area handwashing sink was not supplied with paper towels. Hand drying devices such as paper towels shall be provided for all hand washing sinks, so that employees will not use clothing or other unclean materials to dry their hands and to eliminate the transfer of bacteria. Violation Corrected: Paper towels were provided for the handwashing sink. Supply handwashing sinks with paper towel and do so at all times when paper towel runs out.
  6-501.12 - CORE
 Violation Comments:Build up of black mold like debris is present in the cupboards under the handwashing sink, dump sink, and ice bin in the front service area. Accumulation of debris and water residue is evident surrounding this area. A strong sewage-odor was present. Interior of these cupboards are also deteriorating due to moisture. Physical facilities must be kept clean to prevent the contamination of food and equipment and cleaned at a frequency to prevent the growth of mold, which can be harmful to human health. To Correct: Properly remove the mold and throughout the areas as needed. Ensure proper protective equipment, such as a mask and gloves, are worn. Increase frequency of cleaning and verify employees are cleaning these areas. Send pictures and documentation of the cleaned areas and repair of the cupboards within 30 days (8/4/2023) to jbehringer@miottawa.org.
  2-401.11 - CORE
 Violation Comments:Employee beverages are being stored on the dry storage shelf above and next to food items for customers. Employee beverages must be stored in designated areas that are not used for food preparation, as they are a source of contamination. To Correct: Educated employees on properly storing personal beverages. Person in charge indicated they would designate an approved location for them. Discussed implementing use of a plastic container labeled "Staff" or "Employees" to hold any beverages away from food and clean equipment.

  5-205.15 - CORE
 Violation Comments:Plumbing needs to be repaired in the following areas: 1. Handwashing sink faucet at the front counter is no longer secured and water is leaking when the faucet is running. 2. Coffee brewer drain line is leaking. Improper maintenance of the plumbing system may create nuisances and adversely affect the operation of equipment. To Correct: Repair the plumbed fixtures so they are properly draining and no longer leaking.

  4-602.13 - CORE
 Violation Comments:Under the coffee preparation area and espresso machine, the shelving has a build up of debris and coffee ground residue. Non-food contact surfaces must be kept clean to avoid contamination of food and food contact surfaces. To Correct: Clean underneath the coffee preparation and espresso machine area removing the build up and do so on a more frequent schedule to reduce accumulation. This was cited at the last routine inspection, make efforts to provide correction.
